The UGC NET Exam, also known as National Eligibility Test is meant for those who see their career in the Lectureship or research field. Also, the candidates who want to take benefit of UGC NET Certificate under their career prospects such as getting a Government Job, starting their own research lab/institute etc. can appear in the exam.
The exam was initiated by the University Grants Commission, later, CBSE took its charges. And now from Dec 2018, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has taken over the charges for UGC NET Exam.
NTA UGC NET Eligibility Criteria for Age Limit & Educational Qualification The UGC NET 2018 Eligibility depends on two major factors – Educational Qualification & Age Limit Criteria.
The students having a valid PG degree passed with 50% marks (ST/SC/OBC/PWD) or 55% marks (General) are eligible to appear in UGC NET Exam. Even the candidates pursuing their PG degree while being in the final year can also apply for the NTA NET Exam under Result-awaited category. As per the UGC NET Eligibility Criteria, the candidates must choose only the subjects which are same or related to their PG degree subjects.

Note - There is no negative marking in UGC NET 2018.
